Science Celebration

(OPEN HOUSE NIGHT)

March 8, 2007

Dear Parents,

Our campus is thrilled to host this year’s Science Celebration. Last year, we had a spectacular family night! The teachers have continued the tradition of teaching the scientific process in accordance to district guidelines. The process of science inquiry and the scientific method have been taught throughout the year with mini-investigations taking place in every classroom.  All classroom projects will be on display as well as all individual and group projects, as outlined below. Additionally, the individual or group projects will not be judged competitively, but will be monitored and graded by the classroom teachers.  The following plan, which has been in place for a few years, enables all students to master individual science investigations by the end of the fifth grade.

Kindergarten- grade 2: Teachers will complete a group science project with their class and prepare a display board.

Third grade: Same as K-2, as well as prepare mini-display boards of their CLASS project to use as a model for future projects.

Fourth grade: Same as K-3, as well as completing GROUP or INDIVIDUAL projects.

Fifth grade: Same as K-4, as well as completing INDIVIDUAL projects.

The gymnasim will be utilized this year for the projects. In addition, students from Marcus will be doing some interactive activities that our students can get involved in. Each grade level will have a specific table with corresponding teacher’s names for EACH CLASS project.  Each fourth and fifth grade teacher will have a table designated for INDIVIDUAL projects that are currently being completed. Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have any questions.
