Math Syllabus 6

Mrs. Scott

Course Introduction

Middle school math will help develop a student’s ability to solve problems and reason logically. The Math 6 curriculum is designed to build upon and expand students’ knowledge of numbers, computation, estimation, measurement, geometry, statistics, probability, patterns, functions, and algebraic concepts through a problem solving approach. Concrete manipulatives, games, and technology, which enhance concept development and problem solving, will be incorporated when possible. Finally, classroom activities will provide students the opportunity to work both independently as well as cooperatively in small groups. I look forward to working with students in a productive and fun-filled year.

Homework (30%)
1. All work must be completed in pencil.
2. All papers must have a name..
3. For each assignment, SHOW ALL WORK! No work=No credit
4. Assignments will often be started and even finished in class. However, assignments will need to be reviewed/self-checked at home. Daily grades will be taken sporadically on assignments unannounced! Quality work is expected on every assignment.

Quizzes/Classwork Grades (30%)
Closed book quizzes (announced and unannounced) will be given. Students are responsible for making sure they understand concepts covered in class. If a student needs additional help or practice, the student may consult the teacher for assistance.

Tests/Major Projects (40%)

1. Test corrections may be completed to receive 5% extra credit on any test.
2. Projects will be assigned throughout the school year that incorporate a variety of interdisciplinary skills and concepts. Student independence and creativity, time management, and quality of work are emphasized.

Late/Incomplete Work

Late work results in a maximum grade of 60% on the assignment. A student has until the next progress report to bring in missing work. Individual circumstances will be considered.

Absences

A student is responsible for all work when absent. One day is given
to complete make-up work unless an extended period of time is missed. If a student has to be gone the day of a test, they will be required to take it the day they return. Individual circumstances will be considered.
