Basic Information

1.  Clothing Let your child wear clothes suitable for learning and playing with comfortable shoes.  We make messes and we sometimes get dirty!  On cold days, we will go outside if the temperature is above 42 degrees. On warm days, we will go outside if it is below 94 degrees.  Please dress your child according to the weather.
2.  Personal Items Please do not allow your child to bring toys or other personal items to school. They may, however, bring a book to look at while they wait to go to class.
3.  Backpacks                                  Your child will need a backpack large enough for a normal-sized folder.  Backpacks must fit on their backs.  For safety purposes, rolling backpacks will not be allowed.   They will need to bring their backpack and folder every day.
4.  Supplies A current supply list is available in the office.  We may occasionally ask for replacement items.
5.  Labels Please print your child's name on all clothing and personal items.  (This includes backpacks.)
6.  Time Class begins promptly at 8:00 A.M. and dismisses at 3:00 P.M. Please do not be late! Students may arrive as early as 7:30 and wait in the hall by the library, as there will be a teacher on duty at this time. If you walk your child into the building, please say your goodbyes quickly and go start your day. We would like to encourage independence in your Kindergartner, and “long goodbyes” tend to be more upsetting than encouraging. Our ultimate goal is for your child to walk into the building all by themselves. Thanks for your understanding!
7.  Transportation Please send a note indicating any changes in your child's usual transportation home.  If I don't have a note, your child will be required to travel home in their usual manner.  NO EXCEPTIONS!
8.  Absences We encourage your child to come to school every day. However, please keep your child home if they are ill.  We ask that they be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school. In case of extended absences, please contact me and we will work together to provide "at home" activities.  When your child returns to school, send a dated note stating the cause of the absence. The secretary in the office will handle early dismissals and late arrivals.
9.  Notes Many notes will be sent home during the school year.  Please check your child's folder EVERY night, and thank your child for being such a good messenger.  If you need to communicate with me, just place a note in your child's daily folder.  I check them at the beginning of each class.
10.  Birthdays Please do not send birthday party invitations to school unless there is one for everybody.  OSE policy states that there will not be any in-class birthday celebrations involving food.  (no cookies, cupcakes, etc.)
11.  Parties Our special parties include Winter Holiday, Valentine's and an end-of-the-year party.  Room Parents will coordinate all party details.
12.  Volunteers We love parent volunteers!  If you are interested in helping, you will have an opportunity to sign up. However, you must complete an on-line background check before you are eligible to volunteer.
13.  Money Please do not send money to school (except for lunch money) unless it has been specified in a note from me. When money is needed, put it in a sealed envelope with your child's name and my name on the outside. Thanks!
14.  Dismissal Dismissal is at 3:00. Single pick-up riders (SSOV) will be brought through the side entrance next to the cafeteria. Carpool riders, which are defined as 2 or more children (HOV) will be brought out the side door next to the Kindergarten rooms, and will be waiting for you in the front of the building. Please remain in your cars and pull through the line.
