The Infomercial

2 Major Grades        Due Date  _____________________________________________

Students must present a 4-6 minute infomercial.  The purpose of this presentation is to persuade the audience to buy something.  Students must show the motivated sequence within their infomercial.  Students must appropriately use visual aids during their presentations.  Students may video their presentation, or give their presentation live.  Students may turn their video on either VHS, DVD, or use their camcorder to show the tape.  Only one speech on a tape or DVD.is allowed (explained in class).  All videos must be seen and heard on the T.V. in the room in the classroom.  No one will be allowed to use the computer and or projector to show their video.  Students who bring the camcorder to show the video are responsible for the safety of the camcorder.  Also some may have to bring the camcorder on both the date the video is due and another day to show the entire video to the class.  All equipment to show the video on the camcorder are also necessary to be brought so we can see and hear the video.  All Video’s are due  _______________   Remember this is a long-term project.  Please remember to follow school policy regarding this.

Students presenting live must pick their due date and then be present with all necessary materials to present their speech on the day they pick.  Remember this is a long term project.  Do not miss the day your speech is due.  Students may use other classmates to help them with their presentation.  Students using a video process for their infomercial may use other people in the video.  Please use discretion when using other people in your infomercial.  Other classmates will not be given a grade for their help.  Regardless if you use a video or present live, with or with out other people, the student must be seen and heard for a minimum of 4 minutes and the whole infomercial can not last more then 6 minutes.  All items used, discussed, shown etc. must be school appropriate.  When in doubt ask for permission.   Use of inappropriate words, objects etc will result in a zero.  There is no “redo”.  Students will not be able to use a note card since they will be using visual aids (think and be creative).

Support Material (Minor Grade) This must be turned in prior to giving the speech in order to receive support material points on the speech grade.  You must have 3 from 3 different sources.  Only one can come from an encyclopedia, Wikipedia can not be used,    Support Material is published documentation that you will say word for word in your speech.  The support material does not have to be in quotation marks  (quotable quotes) in the published documentation.  Anything you say from the published documentation word for word is support material thus facts, statistics, definitions, descriptions, testimony, examples, compare/contrast, illustrations, and of course quotable quotes are considered support material

Published Documentation includes books, magazines, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and internet articles that are copyrighted.

When giving support material in a speech you must give credit to the source just as you would in a research paper.  You do this by giving the name of the book, magazine or encyclopedia.  You can also cite a book by giving it’s author.  You cite a website by giving the website.  Do not state the entire website just the main part – to the backslash.  (Example www.geocities.com)

If the material is from a website

Anyone can put anything (as long as it is not slanderous) on a website.  If you are getting support material from a website it must be copyrighted material in order to count as your support material.  Copyrighted material will be noted with the symbol and a date.

We are looking for support material in well researched articles.  In order to count as an internet source your internet article must be at least 5 paragraphs long.  A paragraph is SEVERAL sentences grouped together. Do not go to quotes.com or some other similar search engine to get information.
