Hedrick Elementary Library is one of the older libraries in the Lewisville District with reflections of its history on the walls. Characters from the books in our library come alive as we read to kindergarteners through fifth grade students.

Mrs. Martha Holmes has been the librarian at Hedrick Elementary for ten years. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Texas A & M University at Commerce with a major in English and a minor in Spanish. She received her Information Specialist degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. She has almost 40 years of experience in education and has taught at both the high school and elementary levels. She is bilingual and enjoys being able to use her Spanish to communicate and read to both English speaking and Spanish speaking students at Hedrick.

Mrs. Gretchen Loehr is the library assistant and has four years of experience at Hedrick Elementary. Gretchen came to Hedrick Elementary with ten years of experience in the public library system. Gretchen enjoys reading to our students along with doing many of the technical duties that she performs in our library.

Though our library was built many years ago, we have tried to keep up with the most recent trends in education. We have fourteen computers for our students to use as valuable tools in learning. They can search our online catalog to find what they would like to read in our library or they can research from many choices of online resources.

We have had special authors come to visit our library such as John Erickson, author of the Hank the Cowdog series and D.W. the Picky Eater from Marc Brown's Arthur series. We have storytellers come on a regular basis to share some of their best stories with our students.

We encourage students to read a variety of materials including Time For Kids Magazines, fiction books, non-fiction books, biographies, and other selections. We try to accomodate our Spanish speaking students with a large number of Spanish and bilingual books. They can also read from a selection of Spanish magazines. We have over 16,000 books in our collection and over 2,500 of those are in Spanish.

We invite you to come by and visit our library any time you are at Hedrick Elementary.
