Donald Pledge

I promise to respect myself, other people, and their property. I will be responsible in my use of time, with my work, and in my behavior. I will be a good listener, follow directions, and be prepared at all times. As a Donald Elementary student I will always represent the Dolphin Spirit with pride.

Sharing Bag

The Sharing Bag is also known as "show and tell". It will be sent home daily with one child. When it is your child's turn, remind him/her to put only ONE item in the bag. Encourage your child to choose something that he/she can talk about with the class. Some ideas may include: a picture, a souvenir, a special book...NO action figures/toys, live critters or weapons (including TOY weapons) are allowed! Please have your child return the bag to school the very next day!

Estimation Jar

The Estimation Jar is the "jar that keeps us guessing ." Please help your child find a number of small items (all of the same kind) that will fit in the jar. (The jar does not have to be full). Choose large items in the fall and smaller items in the spring (10-25 in the fall, 10-50 in the winter, 10-100 in the spring). If food items are chosen, they will not be eaten. Then, count the items with your child and send them to school in our class estimation jar.

Instruct your child not to tell anyone how many items are in the jar...not even his/her best friend! The class will estimate the number of items in the jar. We will group them and count them in a variety of ways.

Please return the jar the next school day. It will usually be sent home on Friday so that you have all weekend to decide what will go inside.

Sample objects might include:

marbles
buttons
small tiles
jelly beans
pennies
cereals
styrofoam beads
sugar cubes
rice
unpopped popcorn
pasta
jelly bellies
beans
dice
lima beans
nuts, bolts
macaroni

raisins

Birthday Bags & Journal

When we celebrate your child/s birthday or half-birthday, he/she will bring home two special bags to celebrate. The blue bag will include a birthday bear, a journal, and several birthday books.

Write in the journal and tell how the birthday was or will be celebrated in your child's words. The birthday child may draw a picture to illustrate or you may glue a photograph. (Each child will bring home their own "birthday page" at the end of the year to keep.)

Read the books with your child and send everything back to school the following day for the next "Birthday Child".

The white bag with your child's name on it is the "keep at home" birthday bag.

Behavior Management

Each day your child should receive a stamp or sticker in the daily box on their Six Weeks Behavior Chart. This indicates they have shown appropriate behavior for that day. If needed, the teacher will make a note regarding any area of difficulty experienced that day. The use of the following initials will facilitate the accurate recording of concerns. Children may have 2 comments or checks without losing their daily stamp. The third comment/check will result in the loss of the stamp. Severe infractions will result in the automatic loss of the daily stamp/sticker. Children who accumulate more than 15 checks during the course of the six weeks will be ineligible to receive an end of six weeks Good Citizenship Award.

Scholastic Book Clubs

I give parents the opportunity to order books from Scholastic Book Clubs. Our class receives 1 bonus point for each dollar spent. I use the bonus points for classroom books and materials.

Order forms from Scholastic Book Clubs (See Saw and Firefly) will be sent home monthly. You may write one check to cover orders from both clubs. The check must be made out to Scholastic Book Clubs because I can not accept cash. Please note the deadline for returning orders and checks. If there is ever a conflict over the date, please contact me. We can work out a solution.

You may choose the convenience of ordering and paying online. Our class still receives the bonus points but money and the order form do not have to be sent back to school. Your order will be sent to me at school. If the order contains a surprise for your child, just let me know and I will hold it until you pick it up instead of sending it home in your child's backpack.

To order online you will need the class name and password.

Holiday Sweatshirts

When washing your child's holiday sweatshirt, please turn it inside when you wash it. This will prevent the painted surface from rubbing against other clothes or the inside of your washer. The shirt can be line dried or put in the dryer.
