Health Room Visits

Students will be given temporary care in case of illness or injury during school hours. If your child has a
medical condition, it is essential that the school be informed immediately. We must also have correct
current work, home or cell phone numbers for each student's parent/guardian. Please complete a new
health card each school year and notify the school immediately if this information changes during the
year. It is also important that we have an emergency number (neighbor, friend, relative) on file at school
in case the parent or guardian can not be reached.

To ensure the protection of all children, any student exhibiting the following symptoms will be sent home:

• Temperature of 100 degrees or higher
• An undetermined rash
• Nausea/vomiting or diarrhea
• Red, draining or crusting eyes
• Open draining lesions
• Active head lice
• Communicable diseases listed by the Texas State Department of Health
• The child is unable to function at school or if the severity of the condition indicates school attendance would not be in the best interest of the child

** In order to return to school from fever**

Your child must be fever-free (less than 100 degrees) for 24 hours without fever reducing medications such as Tylenol or Motrin. Do NOT use aspirin (there is an associated link between Reye's Syndrome and the use of aspirin and other salicylate containing medications and products) . For information about Reye Syndrome, click here.

Please help us in preventing the FLU. If your child appears ill, please keep him/her home.

It would also be really helpful to us if you would send a note with your child when they return to school indicating the date of the last fever without fever-reducing medications. We try to follow up on students when they return. If the student does not have a note, we may have to contact you for more information about the absence.

If you have any doubts or questions about sending your student to school, please check with me or your physician.

The district is not responsible for any costs incurred for medical or dental care, or for emergency transportation. However, if you are unable to afford medical care, dental care, eye care, or medications please talk to your school nurse. There are organizations within our community that may be able to help.
