4th Grade Information
1. Attendance/Tardies - Regular attendance is important for your child's success in school. The school day begins promptly at 8:00 am. Students wait in the gym prior to 7:50. Without a note or phone call, your child's absence is unexcused. Late students will report to the front office for a tardy slip.
2. Visiting - We welcome you to come and visit your child at Polser. For the safety of our children and district policy, please stop by the front office to sign in and get a visitor badge before entering the classroom or cafeteria. All parents and guests must wear a badge every time they're in the building in contact with other students.
3. Medicine - All medicines, including cough drops must be sent to the nurse in their original containers. The nurse will need additional information to administer the medicine.
4. Behavior/Dress Code - To provide the best learning environment, good behavior is expected at all times. Communication regarding your child's behavior will be sent home on a behavior sheet daily. This sheet will be turned in, signed, on Monday mornings. Children wearing inappropriate clothing will be sent to the office. Please reaad the dress code in the Student Handbook.
5. TAKS Testing - Fourth grade student achievement will be measured by the state standardized tests in writing, reading, and math. The writing test is administered in February and the reading and math is given in April.
6. School work/Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills - Every child by state law must pass all essential elements with a 70% before being promoted to fifth grade. A student may retake a test for a maximum grade of 70%. Daily work, quizzes, and minor projects are not subject for retakes.
Reviewing work/late work - Please review your child's work with them. Graded papers are sent home in green folders on Friday. The progress reports, six-week report cards, and the on-line gradebook will also help you to monitor our child's progress in school.
Homework - Your child will have assigned homework four nights a week. Developing a good homework routine includes a quiet time and place to complete homework. Homework folders will go home nightly. In addition, students should and are expected to practice math facts daily and read 20-30 minutes five times a week.
Spelling - We will have a spelling test every Friday to be completed in the computer lab. Students will use Microsoft Excel to listen to and correctly type their spelling words. Students will be given the list on Monday afternoon and must complete 3 spelling activities of their choice to be due on Friday morning. An overall spelling grade consists of a spelling activity grade and a spelling test grade. 4th graders are also responsible for "No Excuse words." This is a group of words that should be spelled correctly in their writing 100% of the time.
7. Cafeteria/Lunch - Student lunches are $1.95. Our lunchtime begins at 12:30 p.m. and ends at 1:00 p.m. A "lunch card" may be purchased in advance or you may pay in advance online. No child will go without lunch. The lunch menu follows a rotation and can also be found here. Accounts must be clear in order to purchase a snack. Parents are always welcome to eat lunch with their child. Your child may invite one friend to join you.
8. Birthdays/Snacks/Parties - Please refer to LISD policies on parties. For your child's safety, all treats must be store bought. Restrictions to store bought snacks also apply. Peanut products are not allowed in the classsroom.
9. Conferences - Last, but not least, if you feel you would like a conference anytime during the year, I will be happy to set up an appointment with you. Any personal or educational concerns you have about your child may be discussed in a private conference. Phone conferences are also acceptable. The school number is (469) 713.5789.
